About the Role
Vizzy Labs (venture-backed, San Francisco) builds Taplot (taplot.ai): AI-generated interactive dramas where the player's choices drive the story. We're looking for a narrative game designer who is passionate about crafting emotionally engaging stories, designing meaningful player choices, and exploring how AI can transform the future of storytelling.
Commitment
We’re open to several ways of working together. Choose the one that fits you best:
- Full-time (40+ hrs/week): You’re a strong independent creator who can also lead other creators to produce interactive dramas that fit our platform.
- Part-time (fixed 20 hrs/week): You deliver a set number of dramas based on company needs, and share ideas for improving both the platform and other creators’ work.
- Freelance: Just create fun, eye-catching content.
- Interns are welcome, and we’re open to candidates who need visa sponsorship.
- All roles are fully remote (United States).
Pilot test: Whichever type you apply for, you’ll first complete a pilot episode. We provide funding and content support to help you design it. Pass the pilot, and you move on to a formal collaboration.
Tell us which type you’re applying for, how many hours a week you can commit, and your expected rate.
Responsibilities
- Own the narrative vision of our interactive dramas from concept to final build: worldbuilding, characters, dialogue and branching narrative design.
- Design meaningful player choices, branching story paths and multiple endings that balance narrative depth with player engagement.
- Use AI tools (LLMs, image, video and voice generation) to speed up writing, iteration and creative exploration.
- Work closely with product, engineering, art and design to take stories from prototype to launch.
- Refine stories using player feedback, analytics and live performance.
- Give writers and narrative designers actionable creative feedback and keep a high storytelling bar across the team.
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of professional experience in game narrative design, game writing, scriptwriting, or a related creative writing role.
- Strong command of interactive storytelling: branching narratives, player agency and choice-driven experiences.
- Proven ability to create compelling characters, engaging dialogue and emotionally impactful story arcs.
- Comfortable adopting new AI tools and workflows to improve creativity and production speed.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and cross-functional collaboration.
- A strong sense of pacing, narrative structure and player engagement.
Nice to Have
- Proven industry experience in areas other than narrative design, such as system design, gameplay design, or monetization design.
- Writing for narrative-driven RPGs, visual novels, interactive fiction, choice-based games (Episode, Choices, Chapters) or short dramas.
- At least one shipped game or interactive narrative project.
- A portfolio with narrative design work, writing samples or shipped titles.
- Insight into the global interactive drama and short-form content market.
